(SeaPRwire) – COVENTRY, England, May 20, 2026 — Byohm (trading as Wastewater Fuels Limited), a firm specializing in bio-electrochemical solutions for advanced wastewater treatment and bio-energy infrastructure, is pleased to announce that Dr. Graham Cooley has been appointed as its Chairman.
With over 35 years of experience in the energy sector, Graham has dedicated his career to scaling technologies that advance decarbonization, energy security, and environmental sustainability. His professional journey began in the UK power sector with the CEGB, followed by a role as Business Development Manager at National Power plc—then the UK’s largest power generator—where he focused on energy storage and new generation technologies. He has successfully built two energy storage unicorns and secured more than £650 million in funding for cleantech enterprises.
Graham has served as CEO for several pioneering UK technology firms, including Antenova, Metalysis, Sensortec, and ITM Power. During his tenure at ITM Power, the first hydrogen-focused company to list on the LSE, he guided the organization to become a global leader in green hydrogen electrolyzers. Currently, he serves as a Non-Executive Director for Cadent Gas, the UK’s largest gas distribution network, and holds Non-Executive Chairman or Director roles at three other LSE-listed cleantech companies.
He was a founding member of the UK Government’s Hydrogen Advisory Council and served on the board of RenewableUK. Additionally, he acts as a mentor for the Kings Trust and the IoD, serves as an Honorary Professor at the University of Bristol and Brunel University, and is a member of the Strategic Advisory Board for The Cabot Institute for the Environment. In 2022, he received the Lifetime Fellowship Award from the Bessemer Society. Graham holds a PhD in Physics, an MBA, and is a Fellow of the Energy Institute (FEI), the Institution of Engineering and Technology (FIET), and the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (FIMMM).
Martyn Lathbury, CEO and Co-founder of Byohm, stated: “We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Graham Cooley as our Chairman. For more than three decades, Graham has been at the forefront of the UK’s clean energy transition, most notably as CEO of ITM Power, where he helped establish one of the world’s premier hydrogen companies and raised hundreds of millions of pounds to scale breakthrough technology.”
“His extensive expertise in scaling complex energy technologies, building industrial partnerships, and navigating capital markets will be invaluable as we transition from pilot projects to full-scale commercial operations. Equally important, Graham shares our conviction regarding the vital role that low-carbon fuels and biomethane will play alongside hydrogen in achieving net zero.”
Dr. Graham Cooley, Chairman of Byohm, added: “Biomethane is set to play a pivotal role in the shift toward a low-carbon energy system. What excites me most about Byohm is its capacity to significantly improve anaerobic digestion and pivot outputs toward higher-value biomethane. Byohm is addressing a largely overlooked opportunity in the energy transition by capturing the latent energy within wastewater. The team has created a highly innovative bio-electrochemical platform with the potential to revolutionize how we treat waste, produce clean fuels, and decarbonize essential infrastructure. I am delighted to join at this critical juncture and assist in accelerating the path to commercial deployment.”
About Byohm:
Byohm is a UK-based climate technology firm developing next-generation bio-electrochemical systems that convert wastewater treatment into a net energy-positive process while enhancing anaerobic digestion to boost biomethane output. By optimizing microbial activity, Byohm’s proprietary technology transforms organic waste into clean energy—specifically hydrogen and biomethane—while simultaneously treating water to meet environmental discharge standards.
Built upon significant advancements in microbial electrochemistry, Byohm’s modular, scalable platform allows industrial operators and utilities to lower costs, reduce emissions, and generate new revenue from waste. The technology can also “supercharge” anaerobic digestion (AD) processes by stabilizing and optimizing microbial communities, shifting production away from CO₂ and toward higher-value biomethane.
Byohm’s mission is to transform wastewater treatment facilities into power-generating assets, tackling global challenges in energy, water, and sustainability. The company has achieved rapid technical progress, backed by a mix of private investment and substantial non-dilutive funding. Investors include early-stage firms TSP Ventures and Green Angel Ventures, with additional support from public entities such as Innovate UK, Ofwat, and the UK Ministry of Defence. Byohm collaborates closely with academic and industrial partners, including Anglian Water, Severn Trent Water, United Utilities, and Warwick Manufacturing Group, to deploy pilot systems and expedite commercial rollout.
