HOUSTON, March 14, 2025 — CenterPoint Energy is diligently tracking weather developments and implementing preventative measures to reduce wildfire risks. This comes as the National Weather Service has issued a Fire Weather Watch for a significant part of Texas, including the Greater Houston area, from noon to 9 p.m. on Saturday. Given the potentially hazardous weather, characterized by strong wind gusts, dry vegetation, and low humidity, CenterPoint is actively preparing its response. This includes performing preliminary inspections, adjusting safety settings on power lines, communicating with customers, and coordinating with local emergency services. As part of its customer outreach, CenterPoint will use its Power Alert Service to notify customers in the Cypress, Fort Bend, and Katy areas about the possibility of temporary safety-related power interruptions during a portion of Saturday due to extreme weather and wind conditions.

“The safety of our customers and communities is our top priority. We are closely monitoring and preparing for extreme weather that could affect our system. While the fire risk is currently lower in our service area compared to other parts of the state, we remain vigilant and are taking steps to prepare our equipment and customers should conditions worsen and the fire risk increases. We will keep customers informed through social media, email, text, and our Power Alert Service. In the event of any temporary safety outages, we will restore power safely and as quickly as possible,” stated Don Daigler, Senior Vice President, Emergency Planning & Response.
