AUBURN, Wash., Jan. 7, 2025 — The Clean & Prosperous Institute’s forum highlighted Washington state’s clean energy advancements, featuring a demonstration of electric vehicles—from cars to semi-trucks—racing at Pacific Raceways in Kent.

“While the I-2117 legislation is behind us, the shift to a clean energy economy remains a pressing challenge,” stated the Institute’s Executive Director, Michael Mann. “Recent emissions data from Washington underscores the urgency of accelerating our transition from polluting, costly fossil fuels to more affordable, cleaner energy sources for transportation.”

“The heavy-duty vehicles showcased today demonstrate a path towards achieving this clean energy future.”

To incentivize the adoption of zero-emission medium and heavy-duty vehicles, Washington State has committed over $100 million in funding. This financial support aims to lessen the cost of transitioning to cleaner transportation options.

This year’s forum included the presentation of the annual David & Patricia Giuliani Clean Energy Award to Edo, a firm that collaborates with utilities to transform commercial buildings into virtual power plants (VPPs). Developed by McKinstry and Avista, Edo enhances energy efficiency, reliability, and decarbonization efforts by optimizing building grid interaction, providing utilities with valuable demand flexibility. Edo’s innovative approach to energy and demand optimization is spearheading the movement towards a carbon-neutral future.

“On behalf of Edo, I extend our gratitude to the Clean & Prosperous Institute for this prestigious award,” said Hendrik Van Hemert, Edo’s Managing Director. “Our shared commitment to advancing clean energy and sustainable solutions deeply aligns with Edo’s mission, where we strive to empower communities through equitable economic progress and sustainable infrastructure. This award signifies the transformative potential of collaborative efforts to create a cleaner, more prosperous future.”

Along with Edo, Atlas Agro and Airbuild were also finalists for the award. Atlas Agro is revolutionizing fertilizer production through its Pacific Green Fertilizer Plant, which uses renewable energy to produce low-carbon fertilizer, significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Airbuild is pioneering clean energy with its innovative biopanels and biopods systems, which generate solar power, capture carbon, and filter water, providing a comprehensive 3-in-1 sustainability solution.
