(SeaPRwire) – 10,000 Registered Nurses Push for a Fair First Contract
DETROIT, May 2, 2026 — Nurses at Corewell Health East who are part of the Teamsters union, represented by Teamsters Local 2024, will conduct a practice picket at the hospital’s Wayne campus on Saturday, May 2 at 6 p.m. Their demands include safe nurse-to-patient ratios, equitable wages, accessible health insurance, and enhanced workplace safety.
Last month, the 10,000 nurses voted with a 90% majority to approve a strike if a fair contract isn’t finalized. When they joined the Teamsters in November 2024, the nurses successfully countered an aggressive $1.7 million union-busting campaign and have continued to push back against Corewell’s numerous labor law violations and hostile actions ever since. Local 2024 has filed several unfair labor practice charges against Corewell Health East during these contract negotiations, including one just last week over unilateral changes to eliminate and reallocate bargaining unit positions.
The Teamsters won’t relent until Corewell’s management presents a fair proposal that safeguards both nurses and patients at this hospital.
