The year 2025, when the Gold Mercury Award is presented, is especially significant as it marks the 90th birthday of the Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism.
LONDON, March 13, 2025 — Gold Mercury International, a global think tank focused on governance, has bestowed its Gold Mercury Award® 2025 upon His Holiness, Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama, in recognition of his work promoting peace, compassion, and sustainability.

Upon receiving this honor, the Dalai Lama calls on global leaders—at a time characterized by increasing global tensions, conflicts, and environmental issues—to envision a future where humanity unites, lives peacefully, encourages cooperation, and safeguards our planet’s resources instead of exploiting them.
“I am very honored to receive the Gold Mercury Award for promoting a culture of peace, non-violence, and environmental responsibility, which represents our shared dedication to a more caring and sustainable world. This award reminds us of our collective duty to encourage understanding, wisdom, and environmental harmony,” said Tenzin Gyatso, The Dalai Lama.
Grounded in Buddhist principles, His Holiness emphasizes respect for all life forms and the profound interconnectedness between humanity and nature. As a worldwide symbol of non-violence and an advocate for the rights of the Tibetan people and the preservation of their ecological environment, he continues to encourage individuals, communities, and leaders to cultivate a more just, peaceful, equitable, and sustainable world.
“His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama’s deep dedication to non-violence, compassion, a culture of wisdom, and environmental responsibility has significantly influenced global awareness and is rooted in our capacity to achieve inner peace, sincerity, and integrity. This is why it is so relevant today,” stated Nicolas De Santis Cuadra, President of Gold Mercury International.
His Holiness’s work and message of global cooperation also emphasize the ecological importance of the Tibetan Plateau—often referred to as the world’s “Third Pole” because of its extensive freshwater reserves. As the source of major Asian rivers, it holds the largest freshwater reserves outside of the Arctic and Antarctic, highlighting the pressing need to protect it to ensure planetary sustainability.
The Gold Mercury Award Ceremony will take place in Dharamsala, the Dalai Lama’s residence in the Indian Himalayan region, on 31st March 2025, to honor His Holiness in a significant celebration of his life and legacy.
