Electrify America earned the Best in Innovation distinction for implementing its battery energy storage system (BESS), a technology designed to facilitate Hyper-Fast electric vehicle (EV) charging in regions with constrained grid availability. BESS allows for the storage of energy during off-peak times and its release during peak demand, thereby enabling Hyper-Fast charging in sites where conventional infrastructure is insufficient.

“Intelligent energy solutions are capable of expanding charging availability for a greater number of motorists,” stated Rob Barrosa, president and CEO of Electrify America. “Our BESS implementation exemplifies our approach to combining innovation with real-world problems. It assists us in constructing charging stations in previously inaccessible areas and reinforces the basis for a more robust charging infrastructure.”

Currently, Electrify America has over 170 BESS units operational across the country, providing a combined installed energy storage capacity exceeding 65,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh). This breakthrough contributes to alleviating pressure on the power grid, accelerating the timeline for station deployment, and enhancing charging access for EV users.

“Every Best in Business recipient reached a pivotal moment this year. Some introduced pioneering innovations, while others initiated clever marketing strategies or integrated AI strategically into their organizations,” commented Bonny Ghosh, Inc.’s editorial director. “Regardless of the nature of their business achievement, their endeavors and ventures made a considerable difference to their enterprise and even to their sector generally, thus meriting this distinction.”

BESS empowers Electrify America to provide an unwavering 350 kW charging experience to a wider customer base. A prime instance is Electrify America’s which incorporates 1.5 MW of energy storage, solar energy assistance, and sophisticated control technology to energize as many as 12 Hyper-Fast chargers. This BESS-backed, megawatt-level infrastructure permitted Electrify America to enhance a crucial charging facility situated between Los Angeles, California, and Las Vegas, Nevada, thereby boosting customer accessibility.
