OTTAWA, ON, March 22, 2025 – The Honourable Nathaniel Erskine-Smith, Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities, announced today a federal investment exceeding $369.5 million. This funding, provided through the direct delivery stream of the Canada Housing Infrastructure Fund (CHIF), will facilitate the construction or improvement of essential infrastructure. The goal is to boost the supply of new housing and increase housing density throughout the nation.

These investments are expected to support the building of over 110,230 homes, significantly contributing to the reinforcement of essential infrastructure and accelerating the pace of home construction.

The direct delivery stream of CHIF provides funding for critical infrastructure projects in municipalities and Indigenous communities across Canada. These initiatives will lay the groundwork for housing development from coast to coast to coast.

These projects will deliver vital infrastructure improvements, enhance and broaden access to safe and dependable drinking water, create new water sources, expand wastewater treatment capabilities, bolster sustainable stormwater management practices, develop innovative solutions for solid waste management, and eliminate infrastructure-related obstacles to new housing development, all while enhancing public health and offering environmental benefits.

The application process for the CHIF direct delivery stream is still open. Communities of all sizes across Canada can apply until March 31, 2025, while Indigenous applicants have until May 19, 2025.
