Expanding into Manhattan’s NoMad district underscores HWCC’s dedication to cannabis equity, advocacy, and education.
NEW YORK, Dec. 16, 2024 — (HWCC), New York’s first legal cannabis retailer, opened its second dispensary on December 16th in Manhattan’s NoMad neighborhood. HWCC NoMad is located at 846 Sixth Ave and opened in partnership with , a long-standing New York City nonprofit offering vital services and advocating for numerous New Yorkers in need.
“Opening a second location is a major step in our mission to reduce the stigma around cannabis and educate our communities about its benefits,” said Sasha Nutgent, Housing Works Cannabis Co.’s Vice President of Retail. “This new NoMad dispensary lets us connect with a vibrant and diverse community, proving that ‘Uplift Each Other’ isn’t just a motto—it’s our commitment to supporting marginalized groups and individuals.”
HWCC NoMad’s launch builds upon the success of the nonprofit’s flagship Astor Place dispensary. A portion of the profits support Housing Works, Inc., established in 1990 to address the challenges of HIV/AIDS and homelessness. This esteemed nonprofit provides crucial services such as job training, legal advocacy, over 700 units of permanent supportive housing, two harm reduction centers, and six Federally Qualified Health Centers. Housing Works is partially funded by its nine thrift stores, its Bookstore Cafe, and now two dispensaries.
HWCC remains committed to advancing the cannabis industry compassionately and aims to eliminate cannabis-related stigma through an equitable, harm reduction approach. With its “Uplift Each Other” mission, HWCC NoMad strives for community empowerment by showcasing the positive impact of cannabis accessibility and education—while enabling customers to support HWCC’s mission with every purchase.
“As we grow, we’re keen to reinvest more profits into Housing Works programs that empower those in need,” said Nutgent. “Together, we can foster a community that embraces inclusion and empowerment.”
The 3,500-square-foot store boasts 20-foot-high ceilings and a thoughtfully designed interior, featuring Housing Works’ signature rainbow colors and mission statement. Using the same ordering system as the flagship dispensary, customers can explore HWCC’s wide product and accessory selection through personalized budtender-guided cannabis education, self-service kiosks, pickup, or delivery, all while knowing their purchases directly benefit underserved communities.
HWCC NoMad offers two unique shopping experiences: a rotating window showcasing a curated selection of seasonal items from the Housing Works eShop and in-store shopping via , and The Stash—a dynamic, community-focused retail activation presenting quarterly themed selections in collaboration with notable New Yorkers and cultural figures, launching at a later date. Its central location, between Herald Square and Madison Square Park, makes it an attractive destination for both locals and tourists.
Housing Works Cannabis Co NoMad, at 846 Sixth Ave. (corner of 30th St.), is open Monday–Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday–Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Learn more and order at .
