PARIS, Nov. 20, 2024 — Huawei and its key TECH4ALL partners highlighted the expanding role of Huawei’s TECH4ALL initiative in supporting Europe’s digital and green transitions at a recent forum.

Jeffrey Zhou, President of ICT Marketing for Huawei, delivers a welcome speech at the TECH4ALL Forum

The inaugural day of the Huawei Connect TECH4ALL Forum showcased new and ongoing TECH4ALL projects and their contributions to sustainable development for people and the planet.

“Technology and collaborative partnerships are essential to digital and green transformations, and to building an inclusive and sustainable digital future,” stated Jeffrey Zhou, President of ICT Marketing at Huawei. “This is the core principle behind our TECH4ALL initiative, launched five years ago in 2019, and it’s stronger than ever today.”

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) presented the Tech4Nature global partnership, a joint initiative launched in 2020 by Huawei and IUCN to leverage technological innovation for enhanced nature conservation. Aligned with Huawei’s TECH4ALL initiative and the IUCN Green List, Tech4Nature has provided tailored solutions to conservation challenges across 11 flagship projects in eight countries.

“Tech4Nature is a vital global collaboration between the IUCN-led nature conservation sector and Huawei’s tech sector. It underscores the critical need for technology in addressing the biodiversity and climate crises. Tech4Nature harnesses the innovation of the tech sector to help solve these pressing environmental issues,” explained James Hardcastle, IUCN’s Global Protected and Conserved Areas Director.

Tech4Nature’s Phase II, launched in 2024, includes new and planned projects in five countries, including a biodiversity monitoring and protection project launched last week in Spain’s Sierra Nevada.

PROBOTEK, a Greek startup, unveiled a new forest fire prevention and response system developed under the TECH4ALL initiative. Collaborating with the Greece government, PROBOTEK, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, and Huawei selected Skiathos in October 2024 as a pilot site for Phase II. This solution integrates sensors, 5G, AI, and drones to mitigate the impact of forest fires by enabling emergency response within the crucial first 15 minutes of detection, delivering evacuation routes to residents’ phones, and optimizing routes for emergency vehicles.

In education, UNESCO and Huawei TECH4ALL are collaborating on the Open School initiative and UNESCO Campus. At the TECH4ALL Forum, UNESCO outlined its strategies for enhancing global education equity and quality, including its partnership with Huawei to equip the next generation with STEM skills in Europe.

“UNESCO’s STEM strategy aims to strengthen the efforts of UNESCO Member States in promoting STEM education by creating a supportive ecosystem that fosters critical thinking, problem-solving, and innovation. Key actions include increasing youth STEM engagement, improving teacher capabilities, and promoting gender equality and inclusion,” noted Magdalena Landry, Director of the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe.

TECH4ALL partners Close the Gap and Konexio showcased the DigiTruck projects, which are advancing digital inclusion through digital skills training for priority communities in France, such as the elderly and unemployed youth. The project has reached 6,000 individuals across 31 cities. At the evening’s DigiTALL event, these partners received an award for their contributions to digital inclusion and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Through its TECH4ALL initiative, Huawei has collaborated with a diverse range of partners, including governments, NGOs, IGOs, carriers, environmental organizations, universities, and technology companies. Recognizing the vital role of technology in driving both inclusion and sustainability, Huawei plans to expand its projects and partnerships in Europe.
