–  Infineon received a prestigious award in the “Electrical Engineering and Electronics” category.
–  The company shows significant progress in its ambitious sustainability initiatives.
–  The German Sustainability Award is Europe’s largest accolade for environmental and social responsibility.

MUNICH and DUESSELDORF, Germany, Nov. 29, 2024 — Infineon Technologies AG has been recognized with the German Sustainability Award for its achievements in “Electrical Engineering and Electronics.” The judges stated that Infineon is a sustainability leader, setting an example for successful industry transformation. The award celebrates companies that effectively contribute to positive change and serve as industry role models.

“We are deeply honored to receive the German Sustainability Award,” said Elke Reichart, Infineon’s Chief Digital and Sustainability Officer, who accepted the award in Duesseldorf. “At Infineon, we’re dedicated to decarbonization, digitalization, and building a sustainable future. This award affirms our efforts and motivates us to continue setting a high standard in sustainability, working closely with our employees, customers, and partners.”

Infineon has a comprehensive decarbonization strategy and is progressing well toward its 2030 climate neutrality goal (set in 2020). Emissions have been reduced by over two-thirds, even as revenue nearly doubled. Infineon is also enhancing collaboration throughout its supply chain. As an industry innovator, Infineon started reporting product-level emissions (Product Carbon Footprint) this year, with data now available for half of its product portfolio.

Infineon’s semiconductors significantly improve energy generation, transmission, storage, and usage. A recent example of Infineon’s sustainable innovation is a new energy-efficient silicon carbide (SiC) module, nominated for the 2024 Deutscher Zukunftspreis. This technology boosts the energy efficiency of high-power applications like solar and wind farms and train systems. It also enables efficient electrification of large machinery used in agriculture, construction, shipping, and aviation. A single electric locomotive using this new system saves approximately 300 megawatt-hours annually – equivalent to the yearly energy consumption of 100 single-family homes.

The German Sustainability Award is Europe’s largest prize recognizing ecological and social commitment. The jury selected winners from around 2000 applicants across 100 sectors. The award is a collaboration between the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (DIHK), WWF Germany, PwC Germany, Leuphana University Lüneburg (CSM Lüneburg), and various industry associations.
