Situated in Abu Dhabi, the RTC project is the first of its kind globally—a gigascale renewable energy facility that integrates solar power generation with battery energy storage. Developed jointly by Masdar and the Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC), it features a 5.2-gigawatt solar photovoltaic (PV) array paired with a 19-gigawatt-hour (GWh) battery energy storage system (BESS). This represents the largest and most technologically sophisticated BESS currently available in the world.
By addressing the issue of intermittency, RTC redefines the potential of renewable energy.
