KANAZAWA, Japan, Nov. 30, 2025 — Kanazawa Biyori, a local platform, is known for covering traditional crafts, local food, and emerging cultural trends that are shaping the city. This winter, “SENRITSU MEIKYŪ: Mei,” a new VR horror experience, will be unveiled at Kuraso Place Korinbo, a shopping center located in Kanazawa’s Korinbo area.
This immersive experience, inspired by the popular “SENRITSU MEIKYŪ – The Haunted Hospital” attraction at Fuji-Q Highland, has been reimagined using XR (Cross Reality) technology. The event, the first walkthrough VR horror experience in Kanazawa, will be held from Friday, November 28, 2025, to Sunday, March 1, 2026.
A 1 km “Virtual Hospital” Experienced on Foot
In “SENRITSU MEIKYŪ: Mei,” participants don VR headsets and physically navigate a profoundly immersive horror environment. The setting is a simulated abandoned hospital, rumored to have experienced unsettling events during the creation of a prior VR attraction.
Participants will play the role of external investigators working for the Bureau of Anomalous Phenomena, a paranormal research organization, with the mission to discover the source of these strange occurrences.
Although the physical space is limited, the Scape® XR platform significantly expands the perceived environment, building an eight-story maze stretching approximately one kilometer. As participants make turns, ascend stairs, and communicate with fellow team members, they become fully immersed, losing awareness of the real floor’s boundaries.
Each session is about 30 minutes long, and all participants are represented as avatars within the same virtual world, where their reactions—such as pausing, leaping, or inhaling sharply—are visually shared, enhancing the collective experience.
Why Kanazawa Biyori Is Interested
Transforming Ordinary Space into a Temporary Stage
The venue is on the third floor of Kuraso Place Korinbo, near the busy Korinbo intersection. This area, usually visited for shopping and eating, will temporarily house a virtual maze integrated into everyday life. This combination of daily life and entertainment establishes a unique new attraction for the city center.
Accessible Design for Local and International Visitors
Participants are guided along a set path after putting on their headsets, making it easy to enjoy the attraction regardless of familiarity with the building’s layout. All essential story details and safety guidelines are provided in both Japanese and English, ensuring accessibility for both first-time visitors and international tourists.
