In October 2023, KT&G held a groundbreaking ceremony for the new plant in Almaty, Kazakhstan, and commenced construction of a “hybrid production base” for international sales on a 200,000-square-meter site. Upon completion in 2025, Kazakhstan will serve as a manufacturing hub supplying products to Europe, the CIS, and the wider Eurasian region.
Earlier, in early 2023, KT&G established a sales and manufacturing subsidiary in Kazakhstan to expand its Eurasian business and has been concentrating on building a local business foundation. The company currently employs over 150 locally hired employees, and the plant’s completion is anticipated to generate further local employment by establishing a complete local value chain, encompassing production, marketing, and sales.
The establishment of KT&G’s new factory in Kazakhstan is part of a growth investment designed to achieve the company’s vision of becoming a ‘Global Top-tier’ player. KT&G has set a target of increasing overseas sales to over 50% of its total revenue by 2027 through future growth investments, aiming to become a global top-tier company by enhancing its core competitiveness focused on international business.
KT&G’s efforts to expand its global business are already evident. As of the third quarter, KT&G’s overseas cigarette sales reached 163.2 million units, marking the company’s highest sales volume for the second consecutive quarter. KT&G’s flagship product is the Superslim brand ESSE.
KT&G is the leading e-cigarette, Next Generation Products (NGP), health functional foods, and combustible cigarettes company in South Korea, and is also a global company with 5,184 employees and 717 brands in 143 countries worldwide, including Kazakhstan, as of the end of 2023. The company is focused on achieving its key performance indicator (KPI) of “50% of sales from overseas business” by 2027, and Kazakhstan, its Eurasian production base, is expected to be a crucial element in achieving this goal.
