In recognition of the first American Pope, who hails from Chicago
LOS ANGELES, May 9, 2025 — Gino’s East of Chicago in Los Angeles is presenting a truly authentic Chicago-style pizza as a tribute to Pope Leo XIV, a Chicago native. The Pope-roni pizza is definitely something to consider. It boasts three types of pepperoni: traditional, spicy, and “cup and char,” complemented by Chicago sausage.
The Pope-roni pizza can be ordered as a Deep Dish or a thin crust Tavern Style pizza, showcasing Gino’s East’s renowned crust, award-winning sauce, and fresh mozzarella cheese.
“Chicagoans take pride in our very own South Side Pope, and we’re celebrating with a pizza that sparks conversation,” says Tod Himmel, co-owner of Gino’s East-LA. “It’s a perfect combination of pepperoni and the delicious sausage we all love.”
The Pope-roni will be available for the duration of the new Pope’s term.
is located at 12924 Riverside Drive in Sherman Oaks, California. It has been recognized as “Best Pizza in the Southland” by LA Times readers for two consecutive years.
