These essential funds will support the unprecedented number of Toronto residents relying on food banks.
TORONTO, April 28, 2025 – The globally recognized rock band, Metallica, has announced a $40K donation to the Daily Bread Food Bank through their All Within My Hands (AWMH) foundation. This vital contribution will assist the organization in providing food to Canadians during the city’s escalating hunger crisis.
“We extend our sincere gratitude to Metallica for their incredibly generous donation,” stated Neil Hetherington, CEO of Daily Bread Food Bank. “Currently, too many individuals are facing hardship, and these funds will be instrumental in supporting food bank users as our city’s hunger crisis reaches historic levels. This donation is especially meaningful given the band’s previous support of Daily Bread.”
Toronto is experiencing an unparalleled surge in food insecurity, leading the city to declare a state of emergency in December. According to the 2024 report, over 10% of Toronto residents depend on food banks – double the number from just two years ago. Recently, Daily Bread’s member food banks recorded an astounding 903,350 client visits between January and March 2025 – quadrupling the 215,748 visits during the same period in 2020.

Metallica’s $40K donation will enable Daily Bread Food Bank to offer approximately 40,000 meals to the community, with each dollar equating to one meal. Daily Bread relies on donations to procure fresh produce, proteins, and dairy products for distribution among 205 food programs citywide.
Last week, Metallica performed two sold-out concerts at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena as part of their M72 World Tour. This marks Metallica’s second donation to Daily Bread Food Bank, following their November 2016 donation of all proceeds from a surprise performance at The Opera House.
