NEW YORK, Jan. 1, 2026 — China’s renowned Mount Huangshan brought Eastern natural beauty to the iconic New York Times Square during the 2025 New Year’s Eve festivities. Displayed as “Mount Huangshan, a Treasure of the World,” the landmark’s cross-cultural appeal and heritage were showcased amid the vibrant lights and celebratory atmosphere, adding a sense of Eastern tranquility and majesty to the event.
A special video presentation ran on the massive digital screens in Times Square all night, featuring Huangshan’s majestic peaks emerging from clouds, the symbolic Guest-Greeting Pine representing a lasting welcome, and the enduring charm of Huizhou villages like Xidi and Hongcun. The display emphasized the area’s impressive natural scenery and profound cultural history.
A representative for Huangshan addressed the media and attendees, stating, “Huangshan is not just a proud emblem of China; it is a global treasure.”
“It possesses three prestigious international honors – UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage, Global Geopark, and World Biosphere Reserve – establishing it as both a natural marvel and a wellspring of artistic creativity,” the representative added. “In 2025, Huangshan was listed among The New York Times ’52 Places to Go’ and was reaffirmed on the IUCN Green List, demonstrating widespread global acknowledgment of its preservation efforts.”
The city of Huangshan is also home to an exceptional cultural heritage, boasting 310 traditional villages, such as Xidi and Hongcun, alongside more than 8,000 historical landmarks, which has led to it being known as ‘a museum without a roof.’ By implementing smart tourism and internationally friendly visitor initiatives, Huangshan is enhancing its accessibility and convenience for travelers from around the world.
“The dynamic combination of light, fog, and stone created a living work of art – it inspired me to visit, and the visuals provided a feeling of calm and reflection,” remarked Michael Rosen from California. Numerous spectators described it as a powerful exhibition of Chinese aesthetics.
Huangshan is acknowledged as the world’s first AI assistant dedicated to cultural tourism that provides services in multiple languages, as well as China’s inaugural International Friendly Scenic Area. Supported by comprehensive transportation links and technology-driven amenities, Huangshan is engaging with international tourists in an innovative manner.
As the New Year’s Eve ball dropped, Huangshan served as a cultural link, creating a conversation between ancient nature and contemporary innovation. By the time the fireworks announced the New Year, Huangshan had integrated into the celebration – extending a global welcome for people to discover its balance and warmth.
