MADRID, June 3, 2025 — Peru was a focal point at the 3rd annual Talía Awards, which took place on May 12 at the Teatro Fernán Gómez Centro Cultural de la Villa in Madrid. The Academy of Performing Arts of Spain, led by President Cayetana Guillén-Cuervo and First Vice President Eduardo Galán Font, organizes the esteemed event to celebrate excellence in Ibero-American theater. This year, Peru received special recognition for its artistic achievements and cultural impact.

Producers Mateo Chiarella, Ana Maria Estrada and Carlos Arana

Renowned Peruvian actress, director, and producer Ana María Estrada, who leads Dakini Productions and is currently the President of the Hispanic Organization of Latin Actors (HOLA) in New York, served as a presenter at the ceremony. She was accompanied by award-winning Peruvian producer Carlos Arana, enhancing the visibility of Peruvian performing arts on a prominent stage in the Spanish-speaking theater community.

Three theatrical productions from Peru were nominated as finalists in the Best Latin American Performing Arts Production category, which acknowledges Spanish-language theater created outside of Europe:

  • “Cisnes”, directed by Alberto Ísola, a poetic study of transformation.
  • “Discurso de Promoción”, a collaborative piece by the well-known group Yuyachkani, directed by Miguel Rubio, exploring themes of memory and identity.
  • “La Mariscala”, co-directed by Mateo Chiarella and Lucho Tuesta, centered on the historical figure Francisca Zubiaga de Gamarra.

Peru’s significant presence at the 2025 Talía Awards highlights the increasing international acclaim for its theater scene, which is lauded for its artistic profundity and universal appeal rooted in a unique cultural heritage.

From Madrid, applause resonated for Peru — for its talent, its narratives, and its creative vision — as Peruvian voices continue to enchant international audiences with pride and authenticity.
