NEW ORLEANS, June 3, 2025 — As Congress deliberates on potential revisions to federal energy tax credits during the budget reconciliation process, PosiGen’s leadership is imploring Senators to revise the House bill. They argue the current version could severely harm domestic energy production and raise energy costs. PosiGen specifically requests the Senate to establish a fair approach that doesn’t jeopardize business investments or the jobs of nearly 300,000 workers. Furthermore, they emphasize the need to preserve access to these tax credits for working-class families, enabling them to lower utility bills through solar leasing.
“We have enabled tens of thousands of working-class households to reduce their energy expenses through rooftop solar leasing, without demanding high credit scores, significant incomes, or initial investments,” stated Tom Neyhart, Founder of PosiGen. “The immediate elimination of energy credits, as proposed in the House bill, would penalize businesses, drive up energy costs, and exclude the families who are most in need of this assistance.”
PosiGen provides services to over 40,000 homeowners in 15 states, including Louisiana, Mississippi, West Virginia, Maine, and Pennsylvania. Many of these homeowners reside in communities facing some of the highest energy burdens in the nation, according to the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE). Now, more than ever, we require diverse energy sources, including rooftop solar, to prevent blackouts and escalating energy prices.
“This is about ensuring energy independence and affordability, not politics,” said Peter Shaper, CEO of PosiGen. “These credits have fueled a resurgence in American energy manufacturing, generated hundreds of thousands of jobs in the U.S., and helped millions of families maintain their access to electricity. Abruptly ending them would destabilize businesses and reverse years of advancements.”
The Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) reports that the U.S. solar industry sustains more than 263,000 jobs, with over 100,000 linked to rooftop solar. Also, at stake are substantial investments. The elimination of these credits would also contribute to inflation by raising energy costs by $51 billion for American households and businesses. “Solar energy enjoys widespread support and offers families a valuable means to manage their energy costs and improve their resilience to power outages” stated Kyle Wallace, PosiGen’s VP of Policy and Chair of SEIA’s Residential Solar & Storage Division. “We cannot afford to regress. Congress must avoid the critical error of creating energy instability that will negatively impact our economy and shift American manufacturing back to China.”
A Call to Action
PosiGen leaders are urging homeowners, advocates, and clean energy supporters to reach out to their congressional representatives, encouraging them to protect the energy tax credits and support American jobs, manufacturing, and energy independence.
