HICKSVILLE, N.Y., June 12, 2025 — Designatronics is pleased to announce that induction-hardened miter gears have been added to its QTC METRIC GEARS product line. This addition will support the demands of the industrial and automation industries by offering high-quality metric gearing.
Miter gears, characterized by their 1:1 speed ratio, play a crucial role in transmitting motion and power between shafts that intersect, maintaining consistent torque and speed. They are commonly used in packaging machinery, robotics, conveyor systems, and various types of industrial equipment.
Induction hardening is now available for two miter gear series: : Modules 1 through 8, with bore sizes ranging from 6–30 mm, and : Modules 1.5 through 3, with bore sizes from 8–16 mm. Gears with induction hardening are identified by an “H” suffix in their part number. This value-added service is available for standard part numbers upon request.
According to Simon Brazier, Sales & Marketing Director at Designatronics, “Induction hardening provides substantial performance advantages, such as better resistance to wear, increased fatigue strength, and greater surface hardness. The localized heating method also reduces distortion.” He added, “This service reflects our dedication to fulfilling the changing needs of our customers and providing gear solutions that are more durable and perform better.”
The induction hardening process is applied to the surfaces of the gear teeth, resulting in a surface hardness between HRC50 and 60, and is completed within four business days. Additional machining can be performed on areas not affected by the heat treatment.
