OSAKA, Japan, May 24, 2025 — Concurrent with the arrival of the Chinese solar term “Grain Buds,” a fashionable summer trend from “Shanghai,” known as “Made-in-Shanghai,” has arrived at Grand Green Osaka in Umeda, north of JR Osaka Station. This official five-day event includes exhibitions and forums and is held in Japan’s largest transportation hub and a popular commercial destination.

More than just a display of Shanghai’s fashion influence, this event provides local visitors with a close look at Shanghai’s fashion industry. FANG Wei, China’s Vice Consul General in Osaka, mentioned at the opening on May 21st, that “Made-in-Shanghai” elevates the ShanghaiOsaka relationship. It achieves this by presenting technologically advanced, Shanghai-style fashion, beauty, and creative products to both local and international attendees, and also by encouraging business partnerships as the focus shifts from “Made-in-China” to “Created-in-China.”

The debut of Shanghai’s fashion and beauty districts has attracted significant interest from Osaka’s business sector. CREATER, a Shanghai-based property firm, shared its experience in transforming the historic Yuyuan Road into a fashion and creative center, highlighting global product launches and a concentration of innovative companies. Similarly, Fengxian District’s Oriental Beauty Valley, recognized as China’s beauty and cosmetic industry hub, impressed Japanese consumers with leading Chinese beauty brands and innovations.

Providing an immersive experience of Shanghai lifestyle, the Public Open Days drew Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and Japanese consumers to a China market showcasing fashion, home goods, beauty items, and an oriental tea house that blends tea and sake. Shanghai Chicmax displayed its latest products and introduced its Japanese R&D center and manufacturing plant. The Shanghai brand “nice rice” presented simple-lifestyle apparel to consumers. Hankyu Department Store launched “WINDow of EAST” pop-up shops featuring the creations of six emerging Chinese designers, curated by the Shanghai Fashion Designers’ Association.

The event featured a “Shanghai-Osaka Forum” that went into the “Evolution of Consumer Culture,” including the chief content officer of WWD China, the founders of Herbeast and RichandRare Jewellery, a senior partner from Confis, and a journalist from WWD Japan. Another forum focused on sustainable urban redevelopment and green design, which are shared concerns for both Shanghai and Osaka. Participants included Dezeen’s China editor, renowned Japanese architects, Aedas’s global design principal, and UNS’s director.

The event is overseen by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, hosted by the Shanghai Commissions of Economy & Informatization and Commerce, and the Administration for Market Regulation. It is executed by the Commission of Commerce in Changning District, Shanghai Design Week, Shanghai Fashion Designers’ Association, and The Paper.
