HOUSTON, Dec. 9, 2024 — GATE Energy has been awarded the commissioning contract by Shell Offshore, Inc. for its Sparta semi-submersible project. GATE Energy provides comprehensive project lifecycle support, from design to commissioning, encompassing owner’s engineering, construction management, and turnkey commissioning and startup.
Mark Myhre, GATE Energy’s President of Commissioning, said the company is pleased to continue its long-term collaboration with Shell on the Sparta project, building upon successful past projects like Vito and Whale. He highlighted the project’s all-electric topside compression technology as a major advancement in offshore sustainability.
Lee Jordan, GATE Energy CEO, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration between the US and Singapore teams to deliver low-carbon Gulf of Mexico deepwater production.
Sparta’s design mirrors the Vito and Whale platforms (100,000 barrels per day capacity), both of which GATE Energy successfully commissioned. This project marks Shell’s first replicable project with all-electric topside compression, substantially reducing emissions.
