CANCÚN, Mexico, Jan. 30, 2026 — The restaurants and bars at five Sunset World Group hotels—Sunset Royal, Sunset Marina, Sunset Fishermen, Ocean Spa, and Laguna Suites—have been awarded the Distintivo H 2025 certification. This follows their successful completion of the Food Hygiene Management Program assessment, which was jointly administered by the Secretariat of Health and the Secretariat of Tourism.
The certification audits were conducted from December 1st to 6th according to a set schedule: Sunset Fishermen on December 1st, Laguna Suites on December 2nd, Sunset Marina on December 3rd, Ocean Spa on December 4th, and Sunset Royal on December 6th. This process underscores the group’s dedication to maintaining the highest standards of hygiene, quality, and food safety for its guests.
In a notable accomplishment, three of the hotels achieved a perfect score in the evaluation, demonstrating their rigorous compliance with top-tier standards for hygiene, handling, and food and beverage preparation. Distintivo H is an annual accolade presented by the two government secretariats to food and beverage outlets that comply with the rigorous hygiene standards set by the Mexican Standard NMX-F605-NORMEX-2018. To qualify, staff at each venue undergo ongoing, specialized training.
This instruction encompasses essential practices, including correct food receipt, washing and disinfection methods, cleaning procedures, storage, refrigeration, freezing, thawing, and personal hygiene, all within a system of continuous improvement. Following this training, an evaluation by the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Health requires each establishment to achieve a minimum of 90% adherence across 13 defined criteria.
