(SeaPRwire) – CHAMBERSBURG, Pa., April 22, 2026 — The Franklin County Visitors Bureau invites you to an afternoon event on May 2 honoring Harriet Rebecca Lane, a native of Mercersburg, Franklin County, PA, born on May 9, 1803. As the niece of future president James Buchanan, Harriet Lane served as the nation’s First Lady during his 1857–1861 administration and is celebrated as Franklin County’s own First Lady.
The tea service begins at noon in the Great Room on the second floor of the Franklin County 11/30 Visitors Center. Tickets are $38 per person and include a commemorative tea cup and a selection of teas to take home. The event will feature a presentation on the beauty of flowers, tips for Victorian-style floral arrangements, and advice on using flowers as fashion accessories, a style often favored by Harriet Lane during her time as First Lady.
In keeping with the fashion of Harriet Lane’s era, guests are encouraged to wear hats. Whether you choose to craft a unique piece or wear a favorite, the Franklin County Visitors Bureau will present awards for the Most Elegant, Most Springtime Inspiration, and Harriet’s Pick.
The menu will feature cucumber and summer sandwiches, cookies, strawberry tarts, milk bread, and a variety of teas.
Space is limited. Please purchase tickets online or call the Franklin County Visitors Bureau at 717.552.2977.
