HONG KONG, March 2, 2026 — On February 26, The Mira Hong Kong held its second annual Ramadan Iftar Dinner, furthering the city’s ambition to become a recognized Muslim‑friendly destination and a center for inclusive hospitality. The gathering was held in the penthouse ballroom of the design-focused hotel, which was awarded Muslim‑Friendly Hotel of the Year at CrescentRating’s Halal in Travel Awards 2025. Following the success of the first-ever Iftar hosted by a luxury hotel in Hong Kong last year, this year’s event was co-organized with the Consulate General of Türkiye in Hong Kong and Miramar Travel.

The nearly 200 attendees included senior officials from the HKSAR Government, Legislative Council members, and prominent figures from Hong Kong’s tourism, hospitality, and business sectors. Distinguished guests included the Guest of Honour, Deputy Chief Secretary for Administration, Cheuk Wing Hing; Olympic gold medalist and Legislative Council Member for the Tourism Functional Constituency, Ms Vivian Kong; Commissioner for Tourism from the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau, Mrs Angelina Cheung; and the Hong Kong Tourism Board’s Executive Director, Mr Anthony Lau. They were joined by Consuls General from 12 other nations, representing Muslim-majority countries across the Middle East and Asia, such as Egypt, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Bangladesh, Brunei, Malaysia, and Indonesia. The presence of leaders from the local Islamic community’s governing body, The Board of Trustees, highlighted the event’s dual focus on diplomacy and community engagement.
As the sun set, the evening commenced with a Quranic recitation by Hong Kong’s Chief Imam, Mufti Muhammad Arshad. This was followed by the traditional breaking of the fast with dates and lentil soup within the sophisticated ambiance of the 10,000‑square‑foot penthouse ballroom. The space was adorned with décor inspired by Istanbul’s architectural legacy, featuring motifs from the iconic Blue Mosque and Iznik pottery that evoked the historic cultural interchange of the Silk Road.
Central to the festivities was a extensive and varied Halal buffet prepared by The Mira Hong Kong’s culinary experts, presenting a wide array of Middle Eastern, Asian, and international cuisine intended to mirror the multicultural dining scene of Hong Kong.
A lively focal point of the event was an interactive Ramadan Bazaar showcasing an array of culinary and cultural experiences: Turkish coffee prepared in hot sand, classic pistachio baklava, and freshly baked Turkish simit pretzels. Guests were also entertained by an engaging Turkish shadow puppet show, live demonstrations of Ebru water marbling art, and musical performances by The Saffron Quartet, who played authentic Turkish and Middle Eastern music on traditional instruments, creating an immersive cultural journey.
In his address to the guests, Deputy Chief Secretary for Administration, Cheuk Wing Hing, stated: “We are dedicated to advancing Muslim tourism and streamlining Halal certification, as highlighted in the Chief Executive’s 2025 Policy Address. Our objective is unequivocal: to improve Muslim-friendly services for our community and to establish Hong Kong as a hospitable destination for Muslim international visitors. Through ongoing cooperation, we can bolster Hong Kong’s image as a dynamic, inclusive metropolis and enhance its cultural diversity.”
Commenting on the event’s importance, Mr Alexander Wassermann, Head of Hotels & Serviced Apartments, Miramar Group, remarked: “It is a profound honour for The Mira Hong Kong to host the Ramadan Iftar Dinner again, demonstrating our ongoing dedication to creating a distinctive platform for cultural exchange through hospitality. This yearly event not only celebrates the essence of Ramadan but also reaffirms The Mira’s pioneering role in developing Muslim‑friendly services as we continuously improve our offerings for faith-conscious travelers.”
