LOS ANGELES, March 18, 2026 The Sandbox, an immersive gaming platform and a subsidiary of Animoca Brands, has today launched pre-registration for the playtest of The Sandbox NEXT. This marks a return to its mobile roots for the franchise, which has accumulated over 40 million downloads historically on mobile platforms. The Sandbox NEXT is developed using Unreal Engine, representing a significant technological advancement for The Sandbox, which has traditionally utilized Unity. The Sandbox NEXT features multiplayer extraction and survival gameplay for mobile devices. Players will be able to carry over their existing identity, progression, and all voxel assets from The Sandbox game platform, including both user-generated content (UGC) and branded assets. The game offers a fast-paced, replayable Player vs. Player (PvP) experience that combines intense, skill-based gameplay with The Sandbox’s broader player-driven ecosystem. Avatars from over 56 collections of branded Avatars, including those from Snoop Dogg, Attack on Titan, Smiley, Steve Aoki, Paris Hilton, and The Smurfs, will extend beyond individual matches.

Players in The Sandbox NEXT will be deployed into the Desert, an open-terrain environment designed for sightlines and long-range combat, or the City, a vertical, close-quarters map that rewards adaptability. Matches can be played solo or in multiplayer groups of up to 20 players per instance.

The Sandbox NEXT is positioned as a new entry point into The Sandbox, a platform where playing, collecting, and expressing identity converge. This mobile launch signifies a major milestone for one of web3’s most established entertainment brands, which boasts over 400 brand and IP partners across gaming, music, fashion, and culture, including notable names like Warner Music Group, Gucci, Ubisoft, Snoop Dogg, and Lacoste.

Season 7 of The Sandbox, currently underway, introduced three browser-based games as a user-friendly gateway to The Sandbox ecosystem. With the launch of The Sandbox NEXT playtest, The Sandbox is further expanding its reach by integrating additional experiences through mobile devices.
