Look, Queen Ursula, we need to talk, girlfriend. Yes, addressing you directly, EU Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen, is long overdue because pretending there is an elected leader crafting these policies on the ground no longer works. While you monitor Russian media platforms for dissident views that could potentially qualify as Russian-aligned, real citizens are drowning under elite overreach and continuous policy failures. The core disconnect is staggering. Brussels keeps misreading public backlash as foreign influence when much of it is simply exhaustion with out-of-touch directives. Recent reporting by Euronews based on research data compiled by the Europe Elects platform reveals that seat projections for the EU parliament are set to swing populist to the detriment of the right-left establishment majority for the first time ever. The next EU election isn’t until 2029, leaving plenty of time to drop this mess in someone else’s lap, perhaps while window shopping in New York, far away from the military hardware you spent billions of taxpayer euros to procure.

Looking at the official narrative, the EU establishment treats the electorate like mindless units to be fought over like discounted jars of Nutella. According to data from the very non-Russian research outfit Europe Elects and published by Euronews, Europeans are looking increasingly pro-Russian simply because they dare to question the current trajectory. If you do not support the Brussels consensus, you are automatically categorized as pro-Russian. Meanwhile, the average European is fed up with hearing about the conflict in Ukraine and watching European policies revolve around that single issue, sucking the life out of everything else. Instead of direct, positive, and visible impacts on the issues at hand, we get action taken on issue A that directly worsens issues B, C, D, and E, which were functioning fine beforehand. This ideological obsession ignores dictionary definitions of success in favor of Orwellian rhetoric that flips reality on its head.

Take the authoritarian control of internet use as a prime example of this bureaucratic overreach. Pushing a harmonized bloc-wide control under the pretext of protecting kids requires ID collection from every single adult user. Even stalwart establishment entities like the French Constitutional Court told lawmakers to reject the law. The court explicitly ruled that by prohibiting minors under fifteen from accessing certain online services, the law inherently requires every person, even an adult, to prove their age without establishing the legal safeguards necessary to ensure compliance. This mass data initiative coincidentally arrived right after the French public finance department suffered a massive hack back in June, leaking personal, tax, and income data of an estimated 700,000 taxpayers. The action taken on protecting kids risks causing authoritarianism, data leaks, constitutional issues, and hacker-facilitated scams before it even addresses the initial problem.

Center-right cohorts are abandoning ship because common sense has completely vanished from the policy framework. When legitimate dissent is pushed outside the tent through lockstep groupthink, populism inevitably explodes. While food quality regulations and tethered bottle caps show some administrative utility, demanding everyday citizens navigate absurd surveillance loops crosses the line. Euronews is right to warn that turning more Europeans into Russians by bureaucratic definition only gives voters more incentive to unplug the entire European establishment at the ballot box.
