DETROIT, Feb. 7, 2026 — Wanxiang A123 Systems Corp. has successfully launched a new energy storage platform at its global event held at Wanxiang Innovation Energy City, presenting a solution focused on the paramount industry issue of safety. Themed “Gathering Stars, Smart Storage Future,” the occasion signaled a fundamental change in safety philosophy—moving from responding to fires to preventing them through inherent, system-wide design.

During the launch, the company revealed its Star Series semi-solid-state battery cells and Star River Series energy storage solutions, which constitute the first-ever complete fusion of semi-solid-state battery technology with immersion cooling. This design sets a new standard for thermal safety and dependability in demanding applications.

The Star Series cells use proprietary methods to eliminate problems of electrolyte leakage and instability. In a widely demonstrated 10-needle puncture test, a 100 Ah semi-solid-state cell showed complete stability with no fire, explosion, or thermal runaway—a degree of inherent safety that conventional liquid lithium-ion batteries cannot achieve.

For the Star River Series, full immersion cooling is used at the system level, keeping the temperature difference between cells under 2 °C, even during strenuous operation. This two-tiered safeguard—merging stable cell materials with active thermal management—forms a powerful defense against thermal runaway and guarantees consistent performance in harsh conditions.

The platform also offers significant economic advantages. It boasts a cycle life of over 10,000 cycles at room temperature and more than 7,000 cycles at 45 °C, which is a 40% enhancement compared to typical industry figures. This improved performance in high temperatures lowers the Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE) by around 15%, providing a cost-efficient, durable solution for customers.

The Star River Series portfolio caters to four primary use cases. Data centers are served by an 800 V HVDC architecture that can function as a main power supply. Outdoor cabinet solutions are built with IP68 protection to endure severe weather. For offshore or hard-to-reach locations, modular 5-ft containers allow for easy transport, and 20-ft container systems come with multi-stage fire suppression and three-level Battery Management System (BMS) protection for major installations.

To increase operational intelligence, Wanxiang A123 also launched a Wireless BMS + AI platform that includes pressure-sensing technology. This system can detect signs of thermal runaway up to 10 minutes faster than standard monitors, allowing for predictive safety measures and facilitating the move to automated, smart energy storage management.
