Its hands-free technology has been lauded by disability advocates as a significant step forward in accessibility.

FREMONT, Calif., Feb. 7, 2025 — Xthings Inc., a global leader in IoT solutions, received three awards at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) for its ULTRALOQ Bolt Mission smart lock, the first of its kind to utilize Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology. This innovative lock impressed industry professionals and earned recognition, including an award from CNET and two others from Tom’s Guide and The Ambient.

The lock’s design has also received praise from disability advocates, who highlighted its hands-free operation as a major improvement in smart lock accessibility. Unlike touchscreens or smartphone-dependent locks, Bolt Mission offers reliable, precise, and distant unlocking via UWB technology.

Timothy Hornik, of the Charlotte-based non-profit organization, a 90-year old organization supporting the blind and visually impaired, commented, “As a blind person, finding a suitable smart home lock is challenging due to the prevalence of touchscreen interfaces. Bolt Mission’s seamless phone synchronization and automatic unlocking upon approach is truly exceptional.”

Anat Nulman, Founder of , which assists companies in bringing assistive technology to market, shared her enthusiasm for Bolt Mission’s inclusive design. “I’m thrilled about Bolt Mission’s design because it’s mainstream technology benefiting everyone, regardless of ability. The touchless interface is invaluable for those with physical or cognitive limitations,” Nulman stated.

Raul Espino, chief executive officer of , a company specializing in accessible travel planning, found Bolt Mission’s remote unlocking feature particularly beneficial for wheelchair users. “It’s ideal for people with disabilities; simply placing the phone on the wheelchair unlocks the door upon proximity,” Espino noted.

“The positive feedback from the disabled community showcases how hands-free design dramatically improves daily life for disabled individuals,” said Matthew Brown, Chief Strategy Officer of Xthings. “Xthings is committed to utilizing enabling technologies such as Ultra-Wideband to develop inclusive and user-friendly solutions.”
