Are you currently planning to buy a new smartphone for yourself, a family member, a friend, or a loved one but your budget is only around PHP 5,000?
Well, here’s a new Android handset model from our friends at Wiko Philippines that you might want to check out and consider getting.
Wiko T10 dons an official price tag starting at only PHP 4,390 currently, making it a viable entry-level smartphone option for those who are still using an aging feature-phone or a secondary back-up handset.
For those who are wondering, WIKO is a France-based consumer electronics company founded in 2011. The brand is dedicated to creating gadgets for the young generation of internet users with focus on innovative technology, aesthetic design and superb user experience.
The Wiko T10 review unit that I have here is the 4GB RAM + 128GB ROM version, which sells for only PHP 5,799. The 2GB RAM + 64GB ROM model is the one that goes for PHP 4,390.
Let’s do a quick unboxing before I show you the actual device.
As you can see in the photo above, Wiko T10 ships in a white box with the brand name as well as the image of the handset printed on the cover.
The official Wiko T10 retail package in the Philippines includes the handset itself, the Quick Start Guide, the warranty card, the metal pin for ejecting the SIM card tray, the USB Type C charging cable, and the travel charger.
Design and Aesthetics
Now, let’s take a close look at the Wiko T10, starting with its design identity.
My review unit comes in the Black colorway and it has this interesting triangular patterns on its polycarbonate back panel.
As you can see, the handset’s camera module at the back has a squircle design, which I think is inspired by the camera module of more recent Apple iPhone releases.
These subtle design elements make the Wiko T10 look more eye-catching and remarkable despite not having metallic or real metal accents.
On the smartphone’s left panel, you will see the SIM card tray they can be ejected using the provided metal pin. The SIM Card tray has two nanoSIM card slots with one hybrid microSD card slot. On the right side, we have the volume rocker and the power button.
There’s nothing on the top panel – not even a pinhole – which makes it appear very clean and sleek. In contrast, the rear or bottom panel has the 3.5mm combo jack, the microphone pinhole, the USB Type C port, and the five holes for the loud speaker.
Wiko T10 sports a 6.5-inch HD+ 720 x 1600 pixels IPS LCD that’s large, brilliant, and vibrant enough to deliver an enjoyable viewing experience when watching videos, reading websites, playing games, or viewing vlogs or TikTok clips.
The sheer size of the display also enables a fast and intuitive thumb-typing experience when updating social media accounts, replying to emails for work, or even answering modules for school.
Wiko T10 comes with a single 13 MegaPixel autofocus camera at the back, which should be good enough for everyday point and shoot photography.
Although this camera can’t really compare to higher resolution shooters on midrange or flagship level handsets, it delivers decent images of people, food, activities, and other subjects in well-lit settings. At night or in low light conditions, the user can always turn on flash to get clear and crisp photos.
For those who love to take selfies, there’s a 5 MegaPixel camera in front, housed in the waterdrop notch above the display. Wiko T10 also has a Beauty Mode in this camera app, which lets you beautify your facial features and brighten your skintone on your self-portraits as well as add fun emojis
For TikTokers, vloggers, or aspiring Youtubers, Wiko T10 has a FullHD 1080p 30fps video recorder at the back that has phase detection autofocus and another FullHD 1080p 30fps shooter that’s integrated with the front-facing camera albeit it’s a fixed focus one.
Of the two, the one at the back delivers better image quality because of the larger sensor and when used with the torchlight on, it also enables video recording even in low to zero lighting conditions.
To get good video quality using the front-facing camera, I suggest that you shoot in a well-lit environment or use a bright source of light like an affordable clip-on ring light.
Wiko T10 runs its vanilla Android 11 Go Edition operating system with a 12nm 2 GHz Quad Core Mediatek MT6761 Helio A22 that incorporates PowerVR GE8300 GPU.
This processor features MediaTek’s CorePilot technology that provides power aware scheduling, thermal management and UX monitoring, which assigns the right workload to CPU cores at a specific frequency and voltage, perfectly matching the required performance with best power efficiency. This enables a sustained high-performance and consistently reliable smartphone experience.
As I’ve mentioned, there are two versions of Wiko T10 in the Philippines. One has 2GB of RAM with 64GB of internal storage and the other has 4GB of RAM with 128GB of internal storage. Both models have a hybrid microSD card slot for easy and convenient memory expansion.
As a set, these internal hardware don’t really scream tremendous power or performance but they should be good enough to deliver a decent user experience for entry-level consumers who mostly use their smartphones for browsing social media, watching videos, shooting photos and videos from time to time, reading blogs, viewing vlogs, and playing light games.
Battery Size and Uptime
One of the highlights of Wiko T10 is definitely its very large 5,000 mAh Li-Po battery pack that easily delivers a whole day of uptime with regular use. I think many users can even get up to two or three days of uptime from the device coming from a full charge if they mostly use their smartphone for light tasks.
This sizable battery gives users peace of mind in knowing that the handset won’t run out of juice in the middle of the day. For some, this may also eliminate the need for always carrying a powerbank in their bags.
One downside of this battery pack is that it only supports 10W charging so it takes a while to charge it fully coming from 0%. To get around this, I suggest that you charge the handset before you sleep at night to make sure it will have a full charge when you wake up in the morning.
As I’ve mentioned in the introduction, if your budget is only around PHP 5,000 and you’re thinking of buying a new phone for yourself or a loved one mostly for light tasks, you should consider getting Wiko T10.
Although it’s not ideal for heavy mobile gamers or those who require powerful cameras on their smartphone, Wiko T10 should be good enough for those who just use their handsets for browing social media apps and websites, viewing Youtube and TikTok videos, reading blogs, checking documents, opening emails and modules, as well as snapping everyday photos and videos. I find this model very capable for performing most light mobile tasks.
I also think that Wiko T10 will be a great secondary handset or a back-up phone for those who already own a more expensive midrange or flagship level smartphone.
Personally, I recommend the Wiko T10 4GB RAM + 128GB ROM version, which currently sells for PHP 5,799. I think that the better multitasking experience and larger internal storage of this version are more than worth the PHP 1,409 price difference compared to the less powerful 2GB RAM + 64GB ROM version. But hey, if your budget is really tight, I think the more affordable one will also be a great choice.
