Authorities are investigating the death of a best-selling German author.

Hamburg police reported that 58-year-old Alexandra Fröhlich, a celebrated novelist, was discovered deceased by family members in her houseboat on Tuesday morning.

Police confirmed that one of Fröhlich’s three sons found her. Investigators believe the death occurred between midnight and 5:30 a.m.

Following an examination of the evidence, authorities have concluded that Fröhlich’s death was “a result of violence.”

“Detectives are currently pursuing potential suspects. However, due to the ongoing investigation, further details cannot be released at this time,” police stated in a news release.

According to German news source NDR, police suspect Fröhlich was killed by “extreme violence” and possibly shot.

The outlet indicated that Fröhlich resided on a houseboat on the Holzhafenufer.

Throughout the week, police divers have been searching the Elbe River for a possible murder weapon and other clues, but the outcome of the search remains unclear.

The police are appealing to the public for assistance in solving the crime, urging any witnesses who “have made suspicious observations” to contact them.

Fröhlich’s books, “My Russian Mother-in-Law and Other Catastrophes” and “People Always Die,” both appeared on Spiegel’s bestseller list.

A review stated, “With her novel ‘My Russian Mother-in-Law and Other Disasters,’ journalist and author Alexandra Fröhlich has created a truly remarkable West-East satire. The novel is an enjoyable read, especially for those familiar with Russia, and is sure to bring laughter on dreary winter days.”

Digital has contacted Hamburg Police for comment but has not yet received a response.
