Reports indicate a woman was beheaded Wednesday during an ax attack on a Polish college campus.
Polish authorities have apprehended a man following a fatal ax attack at Warsaw University.
“Police have apprehended a man who entered the University of Warsaw campus. One person is dead, and another is hospitalized with injuries,” Warsaw Police announced via X.
The incident occurred around 1:40 p.m. local time when a 22-year-old man entered the campus.
“One person died, the other was taken to hospital with serious injuries,” Warsaw police stated. “Prosecutors and police are investigating at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.”
Polsat News, a private broadcaster, reported the discovery of a woman’s severed head and an ax at the university.
The Rector of the University of Warsaw stated that an employee was “brutally murdered” and a security guard was “seriously injured.”
“The perpetrator has been caught. We extend our deepest condolences and sympathy to the family and friends,” the university said.
The university has announced Thursday, May 8, as a day of mourning.
A spokesperson for the district prosecutor’s office told the news outlet that a female victim was killed at the scene, and a security guard was hospitalized in critical condition with injuries.
