Deadly Car Crash at Manila Airport Kills Two, Including Child

Officials report that a car crash at the entrance of Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Sunday resulted in the deaths of two people and injuries to several others.

The crash, involving a black SUV, killed a man and a young girl. The Philippine Red Cross stated the girl was four years old, while Secretary of Transportation Vivencio Hizon reported she was five. Four others were injured.

NAIA reported that the “vehicular accident” occurred when a car crashed through the airport’s outer railing and into the walkway near the entrance of Terminal 1.

New NAIA Infra Co., the airport’s operator, issued a statement saying, “We understand the concern this incident has caused, especially as images have circulated on social media. We urge the public not to speculate and to wait for verified updates, which will be issued as soon as they become available.”

Local media reports indicate the SUV was parked near the terminal entrance when the driver, after a car passed in front, mistakenly hit the accelerator instead of the brake.

Those injured in the incident are receiving medical care. The airport operator confirmed the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash was also injured.

The Land Transportation Office has suspended the driver’s license for 90 days pending the outcome of an investigation.

Images shared by local media showed people lying on the ground. Shattered glass littered the terminal entrance, and the front of the black SUV sustained visible damage from impacting the airport doors.

Dozens of emergency personnel were present at the airport, surrounding the vehicle, which has since been removed from the scene.

The airport operator stated it is cooperating with authorities to
