Despite President Iran’s chief justice called for swift trials and amid the ongoing anti-government demonstrations, a report stated Wednesday.
Gholamhossein Mohseni-Ejei’s comments come as the has climbed to at least 2,571, according to the U.S.-based Human Rights Activists News Agency. Other accounts indicate the death toll exceeds 3,000, with the actual figure likely to be even greater.
“If we’re going to undertake a task, we should do it right now. If we intend to do something, we must do it promptly,” Mohseni-Ejei stated in a video shared by Iranian state television, per The Associated Press. “If it’s delayed—two months, three months down the line—it won’t have the same impact. If we want to act, we have to do so quickly.”
