In a Christmas Eve video message posted on X, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu extended holiday greetings to Christians globally, expressing gratitude for their unwavering support amidst Israel’s ongoing conflicts with terrorist organizations.
“To my Christian friends, as you celebrate Christmas with loved ones, I offer the Christian community in Israel and worldwide blessings of a Merry Christmas from the Holy Land,” Netanyahu stated in his message.
His remarks come during a period of intense conflict, with Israel engaged in multiple fronts against groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah. These conflicts followed Hamas’ October 7th, 2023 surprise attack, prompting Israeli military retaliation.
“During this time of fighting on multiple fronts, we deeply value the steadfast support of our Christian friends worldwide. Your unwavering, forceful support has been crucial as Israel defends our civilization against barbarism,” Netanyahu emphasized.
“Israelis are united in defending our nation against those seeking our destruction,” he continued. “We seek peace with all who desire peace, but will act decisively to protect the one and only Jewish state, the heart of our shared heritage.”
According to the Israeli Central Bureau of Statistics, over 180,000 Christians reside in Israel, comprising roughly 1.8% of the nation’s more than 9.9 million people. The Christian population increased by 0.6% last year.
“Israel leads the global fight against evil and tyranny, but our struggle continues,” the Prime Minister added. “With your support and God’s help, we will prevail. From Jerusalem, the city of peace, I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.”
