USS Ford Ordered to the Middle East, the Second Aircraft Carrier Dispatched to the Region

A U.S. official confirmed to . that the USS Gerald R. Ford has been directed to move from the Caribbean Sea to the Middle East, as the President evaluates whether to take military action against Iran amid tensions in the region.

This will place two aircraft carriers and their supporting warships in the region. The USS Abraham Lincoln carrier and three guided-missile destroyers more than two weeks ago.

The USS Ford, which started its deployment in June 2025, was shifted from the Mediterranean Sea to the Caribbean last fall as the administration established a substantial military presence ahead of the operation to strike Venezuela and capture its president, Nicolás Maduro.

On Thursday, Trump warned Iran that failing to reach an agreement with the U.S. about its nuclear program would be “very traumatic” after the two countries held last week.

“It should be done quickly. They should agree very fast,” he told reporters.

Trump held talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday and said he insisted to the Israeli leader that negotiations with Iran must go on.

Netanyahu is calling on the Trump administration to push Tehran to cut back its ballistic missile program and end its support for terrorist groups like Hamas and Hezbollah as part of any deal.
