XI’AN, China, May 21, 2025 — Recently, the “Yuanhai Kou,” China’s largest ocean-going, dual-fuel (solar and LNG) car carrier, embarked on its first voyage from Nansha, Guangzhou. The ship is carrying a full load of vehicles from Chinese manufacturers, with over 90% being new energy vehicles, destined for countries including Greece, Turkey, Italy, and Tunisia. LONGi, a global leader in solar technology, supplied high-performance PV modules for the vessel, contributing to a world-class model of low-carbon, intelligent shipping through its dependable performance.

The “Yuanhai Kou” is 199.9 meters long, with a gross tonnage of 68,252 tons and a displacement of 39,069 tons. It has 12 vehicle decks, consisting of 8 fixed and 4 adjustable decks, and can accommodate 7,000 standard car parking spaces. It is capable of transporting various types of vehicles, including sedans, engineering vehicles, buses, and MAFI cargo.

As China’s largest car carrier powered by PV+LNG energy, the “Yuanhai Kou” boasts various green, low-carbon, and intelligent features. In addition to utilizing an advanced LNG dual-fuel main engine, it is equipped with a distributed PV system with a peak power of 302.8 kilowatts, which is currently the largest photovoltaic system installed on similar vessels.

The distributed PV system on the “Yuanhai Kou” uses LONGi’s Sea-Shield series modules, maximizing the use of the ship’s upper deck space. Over 500 PV panels are installed throughout the ship, providing a reliable source of clean energy for its lighting, communication, and other systems. This PV system generates 410,000 kWh of electricity per year, saving approximately 111 tons of fuel and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 345.9 tons, which is equivalent to planting around 38,000 trees annually (based on a single tree fixing 9 kilograms of carbon per year).

Designed for maritime environments with high salt spray, high humidity, and strong vibration, the Sea-Shield series modules have significantly improved salt spray resistance and waterproof performance thanks to anti-corrosion frame materials, enhanced sealing processes, and specialized junction box designs. This ensures continuous and efficient power output under challenging operating conditions, supporting the ship’s green power supply during navigation.

As a global leader in solar technology, LONGi has consistently developed and launched functional products to address the needs of various applications. With its continually upgraded and extensive product range and solutions deeply integrated with the demands of specific markets, it is leading the trend of differentiated scenario products in the industry. Looking ahead, LONGi will continue to collaborate with more partners to illuminate the “Made in China” maritime journey with reliable and efficient green energy.
