Düsseldorf’s Japan-Tag Festival Draws 380,000 with Culture and Fireworks

DÜSSELDORF, Germany, May 27, 2025 — The 22nd Japan-Tag Düsseldorf/NRW proved to be another resounding success. Despite variable weather conditions, approximately 380,000 visitors from Germany and other countries flocked to downtown Düsseldorf on May 24th to partake in the festival celebrating Japanese culture and fostering intercultural exchange. The event, held between the Reuterkaserne and Landtagswiese, offered a diverse range of cultural attractions, from traditional Japanese arts to contemporary pop culture and engaging sports activities, ensuring an exciting experience throughout the day. This year’s Japan-Tag also showcased an impressive array of Japanese culinary delights.

Key Highlights of the 22nd Japan-Tag Düsseldorf/NRW

At 12 p.m., Lord Mayor Dr. Stephan Keller, alongside State Secretary Paul Höller from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Industry, Climate Protection and Energy of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, Takao Hariya, President of the Japan Club, and Japanese Consul General Yoshitaka Tsunoda, officially inaugurated the 22nd Japan-Tag Düsseldorf/NRW with the traditional sake barrel opening ceremony.

Enthusiastic visitors began arriving as early as 11 a.m. to explore Japanese culture at around 100 booths. The pop culture stage showcased the vibrant and diverse world of Japanese pop culture. At the sports stage, attendees had the chance to immerse themselves in various Japanese martial arts.

Throughout the day, the main stage featured traditional performances by groups such as the Taiko-AG and the Japanese kindergarten. The Japanese J-Rock band ReaL delivered a captivating performance on the main stage at Burgplatz, providing a spectacular conclusion to the day’s entertainment. The Japanese fireworks display, themed ‘Exploring Japan – A night sky full of magic’ this year, provided a perfect ending to the Japan Day celebrations.
