LONDON, Dec. 11, 2024 — While two-thirds of respondents prioritize sustainability, a vast majority (95%) acknowledge feeling guilty about insufficient efforts.
A survey of 2,000 UK adults, conducted by OnePoll for Sustain Commercial Solar, indicates widespread adoption of sustainable practices. Common actions include using reusable items (64%), responsible waste management (61%), conserving water and energy (59%), and unplugging appliances (53%).
However, comparatively fewer individuals support sustainable brands (21%), shop at refill stores (14%), or use renewable energy (14%).
The poll identified key obstacles to wider sustainable adoption: financial limitations (49%), time constraints (37%), difficulty accessing sustainable alternatives (32%), and insufficient knowledge (30%).
Jani Moran, Sustain Commercial Solar’s Commercial Director, stated: “The desire for sustainable choices is evident, yet significant change remains unattainable for many.
Sustain Commercial Solar tackles these hurdles by providing flexible financing and comprehensive support, making renewable energy accessible to businesses and individuals.”
The study also explored employee perspectives on workplace sustainability. A significant portion (69%) prefer employers committed to sustainability, with 53% indicating that unsustainable practices would influence their employment decisions.
Jani Moran added: “Renewable energy, such as solar power, isn’t just a symbol of corporate sustainability but crucial for a future less reliant on fossil fuels. This research urges business leaders to embrace energy responsibility and build a greener future.”
The research also highlighted employee preferences for employer-led sustainable initiatives:
- Waste reduction and improved recycling – 45%
- Renewable energy use (solar, wind) – 41%
- Encouraging remote work to reduce commuting – 38%
- Incentivizing eco-friendly commuting – 37%
- Supporting environmental and local sustainability programs – 36%
