A side event, “Empowering Green Value Chains, Contributing to New Productive Forces,” successfully concluded at COP29
BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov. 23, 2024 — The “Empowering Green Value Chains, Contributing to New Productive Forces” side event, a joint venture by the Vanke Foundation, C Team, and Phoenix TV, took place in Baku, Azerbaijan, during COP29. The event focused on enabling human capital and green value chains within Chinese industries to achieve environmentally friendly and efficient operations under the nation’s dual-carbon goals. Its objective was to foster new productive forces and drive the green transformation of economic and social development.
Experts, academics, business leaders, and NGO representatives from China and elsewhere participated, discussing global trends in green value chains across various sectors. Yang Peidan, Director of C Team, chaired the event. Liu Xi, Senior Manager of Climate Change and Biodiversity at the Vanke Foundation, addressed the gathering, emphasizing the foundation’s vision for a sustainable future and its commitment to environmental protection. She also introduced the “Net Zero Drive” Talents Acceleration Initiative and the “Together We Act” platform as key strategic initiatives.
Liu Yifeng, Deputy Director of C Team, detailed the “Together We Act” platform, designed to cultivate talent for China’s dual-carbon strategy, providing the skills needed for the green transition.
C Team is strategically upgrading its support for emerging industry talent while aiding the transition of workers from traditional sectors, aiming to create a green employment ecosystem. Liu explained the need for traditional industry workers to adapt to industry shifts and for emerging sector employees to continuously update their skills. The initiative emphasizes training to improve technology and management applications for effective technological and energy transformations.
In partnership with Tencent, C Team developed the “Together We Act” platform, utilizing “knowledge cards” to deliver targeted training and assessments. The platform’s algorithms personalize learning, and administrative tools manage tasks and learning objectives. The separation of knowledge and exercises creates a flexible learning environment.
Furthermore, C Team intends to analyze platform data on workforce technology upgrades and training to assess the impact of dual-transformation policies on workforces in corporate supply chains and regions. This data will aid businesses and local governments in understanding workforce trends and supporting transitions.
Yang Yuntong, Director of International Cooperation and Project Operations at Phoenix TV, highlighted the media’s crucial role in promoting new productive forces. Phoenix TV, as a leading Chinese-language media group, has been actively involved in climate change communication in China, hosting the “Zero-Carbon Mission International Climate Summit” for four years, fostering dialogue and influencing corporate practices and public awareness.
Xu Shilun, head of ESG projects at Onewo’s Sustainable Development Center, discussed Onewo’s focus on reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions in property management. Onewo integrates its experience into its “Magic Stone” AI system, concentrating on energy management to enhance carbon efficiency and encourage greener lifestyles.
The roundtable discussion centered on “Collaborative Innovation of Diverse Forces in Creating New Productive Forces” and “Empowering Green Value Chains to Drive the Green Transformation of Economic and Social Development”. Representatives from JA Solar, Anta Group, Lenovo, Carbonstop, PES, Exiss, ACT, Dasso, Hainan Deeprock, and SQUAKE participated, along with Chen Hao, Secretary of the CPC Municipal Committee of Huzhou City (via video), who introduced the “Bamboo Forest Carbon Sequestration” concept.
The event was described as a commitment to sustainable development. C Team plans to continue collaborating with various organizations to ensure high-quality training on the platform.
