RBC Commits $10 Million to Fight Food Insecurity as Part of Broader $2 Billion Community Investment Plan

A global donation of $10 million, including employee matching, will aid in feeding communities.

TORONTO, June 9, 2025 – RBC, RBC Foundation®, and RBC Foundation USA have pledged $10 million globally to support organizations tackling food insecurity in communities, as part of their broader effort to address growing inequality. Aligned with its Purpose Framework, RBC aims to foster inclusive opportunities for prosperity, enhancing the well-being and resilience of the communities it serves. This donation is part of a larger commitment of $2 billion toward community investment by 2035.

“Strengthening our communities is central to our mission. In today’s challenging world, our role in giving back is more critical than ever,” stated Andrea Barrack, SVP, Sustainability & Impact, RBC. “Food security is an increasing concern and a vital component of a thriving community. We need comprehensive solutions that address current and future needs through food storage, supply and distribution, community support, and innovative farming practices.”

RBC employees have a longstanding tradition of supporting their communities by donating time, skills, and resources. To bolster RBC’s commitment to addressing food insecurity, employees can participate in internal programs that match their donations and volunteer with local community partners focused on food security.

Funding recipients include organizations in Canada, the US, and the UK, such as the Ottawa Community Foundation, Food Banks Canada, Food Banks of Saskatchewan, Fresh Routes, Harvest Manitoba, World Central Kitchen, and FareShare in the U.K., among others.

Canada faces a food security crisis that requires systemic change at the community level. Thanks to RBC’s significant investment, in partnership with the Ottawa Community Foundation, we are launching sustainable and resilient local food initiatives across Canada. The initial project with the Ottawa Mission helps cultivate fresh greens year-round for their food programs while providing individuals with hands-on farming training. Other Canadian communities are using this project as a model to replicate, encouraging public-private-community collaboration to maximize impact and build more resilient communities,” said Corey Ellis, Co-founder and CEO of Growcer.

These community investments, spanning single and multi-year periods, come at a crucial time when charities and non-profits require increased support. According to Feed Opportunity, 8.7 million Canadians experienced food insecurity in 2023, a 26% increase from the previous year. The funding is also part of RBC’s broader initiatives to promote inclusive opportunities for prosperity, including financial well-being and skills development.
