SHENZHEN, China, Feb. 8, 2025 — A Shenzhen Daily report:
Tafadzwa Mackenzie Kadere (Taf), a U.K. resident and Shenzhen Global Communication Ambassador, recently visited Qianhai Uniway mall in Shenzhen’s Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone (Guangdong Province, South China). He assessed the mall’s international shopping services.
Qianhai recently launched its first “International-Friendly Shopping Areas” and “International-Friendly Merchants,” enhancing the shopping experience for international residents. Qianhai Uniway and Breeze Valley at Qianhai MixC are the initial designated “International-Friendly Shopping Areas,” each with over 15 certified “International-Friendly Merchants.”
To achieve “International-Friendly Merchant” status, stores must provide international payment options, bilingual menus and service information, staff with basic English communication skills (some offer fluent English service), and staff wear smiley face badges.
Taf found an “International-Friendly Merchant” sign at a Western restaurant. Staff, identifiable by their badges, assisted him with ordering and payment, facilitating a pleasant afternoon tea experience.
A bar’s bilingual menu allowed Taf to easily understand the food and drink offerings. The English service enhanced his comfort and familiarity.
Qianhai Uniway’s reception area offered English instructions on linking bank cards with WeChat and Alipay, aiding international visitors unfamiliar with local digital payments.
Qianhai’s initiatives, such as the “International-Friendly Shopping Areas” and “International-Friendly Merchants,” are improving its international appeal and business environment. This year, Qianhai aims to cultivate a more international atmosphere, becoming a hub for cultural exchange in Shenzhen.
EyeShenzhen launched the “Shenzhen Global Communication Ambassador Program” in June 2023, inviting influential international figures to share stories about Shenzhen’s development and build an international communication network using various media platforms.
