(SeaPRwire) – LAKELAND, Fla., May 6, 2026 — The Ashley Gibson Barnett Museum of Art at Florida Southern College (The AGB) is pleased to announce the appointment of Laura V. Putnam as its new Curator of Exhibitions. Having served the Museum since 2013 and most recently as Manager of Exhibitions and Adult Programs, Putnam brings over ten years of museum experience, extensive institutional knowledge, and a proven track record in curatorial and programmatic leadership to her new role.
“Laura has consistently shown outstanding leadership, creativity, and a profound dedication to our mission,” said Dr. Daryl Ward, Executive Director of The AGB. “After thoroughly reviewing her achievements and consulting with peers across the field, it was evident she is the ideal candidate to guide our curatorial direction going forward.”
Putnam’s promotion follows a period of growing curatorial responsibility. Following the departure of former Executive Director and Chief Curator Dr. Alex Rich, she assumed an expanded role, skillfully leading the Museum’s exhibition programming over the past several months.
“Laura is a highly accomplished museum professional with a distinct curatorial vision and the ability to deliver at the highest standard,” Ward added, noting that Dr. Alex Rich expressed strong support for her appointment during consultation.
As Curator of Exhibitions, Putnam will oversee the conceptualization, development, and implementation of all exhibitions at the Museum. Her duties include conducting original research, selecting artworks, producing interpretive content, and coordinating with internal teams to ensure exhibitions reflect the Museum’s mission. She will also act as the main point of contact with artists, scholars, and partner institutions.
“It is an honor to assume this new position, and I am eager to collaborate with the exceptional team at The AGB in my capacity as Curator of Exhibitions,” said Putnam.
Throughout her time at the Museum, Putnam has managed intricate exhibition logistics—including scheduling, budgeting, shipping, and installation—while promoting cross-departmental collaboration. She has also curated a compelling lineup of recent exhibitions, such as Darkroom Alchemy: Photographs by Jerry Uelsmann, Surreal Scenarios: The Art of Susanne Schuenke, and The Medici Dynasty: Renaissance in Florence, among others.
In addition to her museum responsibilities, Putnam serves as an Adjunct Professor of Art History and Museum Studies at Florida Southern College, teaching courses on curatorial practice, collections management, and the evolving function of museums in society.
Putnam holds a Master of Science in Arts Administration from Boston University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from the Rhode Island School of Design, with a concentration in Art History, Theory, and Criticism.
