APAC travelers are far from uniform

Conversely, 47% of Indonesians seek adventure, preferring natural attractions such as mountains and national parks. In Japan, wellness and cultural experiences are paramount, with 40% of travelers selecting spa retreats and historical sites.

Domestic tourism is dominant

70% of travelers in markets such as Thailand, Indonesia, and Japan opt for domestic exploration. In Thailand and Indonesia, affordability and convenience are key motivators, while 65% of Japanese travelers cite safety as the primary reason for choosing domestic travel.

Cost is a major decision factor

Almost half of respondents in markets including Singapore (45%), Australia (48%), Japan (43%), Malaysia (46%), and Indonesia (46%) prioritize affordability in accommodation choices. With appropriate incentives, APAC travelers are open to exploring unfamiliar destinations.

The rise of digital travel platforms

Digital platforms are increasingly integral to APAC travel planning, simplifying bookings for accommodation, transportation, activities, and itinerary management. In markets such as Indonesia and Singapore, 53% of respondents utilize digital travel platforms for leisure trips. Platforms like Traveloka have gained prominence by effectively meeting these needs. Furthermore, 83% of travel platform users express significant confidence in the security and reliability of these platforms, highlighting the crucial role of trust in driving digital adoption.

Sustainable travel is gaining momentum

Sustainability is increasingly influencing travel decisions in APAC. Interest is particularly strong in India, Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia, where over 80% of respondents favor sustainable travel. However, challenges remain: 32% find sustainable options too expensive, while another 32% are uncertain about where to find them.
