Israel Resumes Blockade of Northern Gaza, Including Gaza City

Israeli forces have reimposed a blockade on Gaza City’s northern capital, a day after redeploying troops into the Gaza Strip.

Accompanying this, Israel continued its bombardment, resulting in the deaths of 85 Palestinians between Wednesday and Thursday, according to the Hamas-controlled Gaza health ministry. The blockade of Gaza City had been in effect for much of the war before the January ceasefire, which broke down earlier this week.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) cautioned residents against using the main road for travel north into Gaza City.

The IDF is also carrying out further ground operations in Beit Lahiya, a northern town. The majority of Palestinian fatalities in the last 24 hours have been concentrated in this town.

A small number of rockets were fired into Israel on Thursday, causing no injuries.

According to the health ministry, the total death toll in Gaza since Tuesday has reached 592, although this figure has not been independently verified.

In addition to the blockade at Gaza City, forces are stationed in the Netzarim corridor, a strategically important area that effectively divides the Gaza Strip in half. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has asserted that military operations will continue until all hostages are released from Hamas captivity.

“Hamas repeatedly rejected offers to release our hostages. For the past two weeks, Israel refrained from any military action, hoping Hamas would change its stance. This did not occur. While Israel accepted the offer from President Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, Hamas refused outright,” Netanyahu stated in a video shared on X on Tuesday. “Therefore, I authorized the resumption of military action against Hamas yesterday.”

“Israel does not target Palestinian civilians, but rather Hamas terrorists,” he declared. “And when these terrorists conceal themselves within civilian areas, using civilians as human shields, they bear responsibility for any unintended casualties.”
