237 Warehouse Workers Join Local 769, Prepare to Bargain First Contract

MIAMI, May 22, 2025 — Over 230 warehouse employees at United Natural Foods Inc. (UNFI) in Pompano Beach and Miami have overwhelmingly voted to become members of Teamsters Local 769. Their aim in organizing was to secure improved pay, enhanced benefits, and safer conditions at work.

Roderick Jackson, a UNFI warehouse worker and new Local 769 member, stated, “We chose to join the Teamsters to gain the security of a robust, legally binding union agreement. We’ve observed the achievements of our fellow workers at other UNFI sites as Teamsters, and we’re prepared to fight for similar gains.”

This victory in Florida is the most recent in a string of successful organizing efforts at UNFI. Since 2022, more than 3,000 UNFI employees have become Teamsters members. This represents 19 consecutive successful organizing campaigns, following a recent win in .

Josh Zivalich, President of Local 769, commented, “We are delighted to welcome these dedicated new members into the Local 769 family. They advocated for workplace representation, and we are prepared to assist them in securing an initial contract that reflects the advancements already attained by UNFI Teamsters both in Florida and nationwide.”

UNFI is the primary wholesale distributor for Whole Foods, which is owned by Amazon. Teamsters at UNFI facilities in Florida, Georgia, and Illinois have secured benefits such as an $8 per hour wage increase, Teamsters health coverage, a defined benefit pension plan, seniority protections, and increased paid time off.

Tom Erickson, Director of the Teamsters Warehouse Division, stated, “UNFI workers are no longer willing to be exploited. They are pushing back and elevating standards across the country. The Teamsters now represent over 65 percent of UNFI’s workforce. We will continue organizing until everyone is represented. Every UNFI worker is entitled to a strong Teamsters contract and the safeguards it provides.”
